Ashton Plastic Surgery

Prof. Mark Ashton is a Clinical Professor of Surgery and Honorary Professor of Anatomy at the University of Melbourne, and serves as Chair of Plastic Surgery at Epworth Freemasons Hospital. He previously led the Plastic Surgery departments at The Royal Melbourne Hospital from 2001 to 2016 and the Royal Women’s Hospital from 2000 to 2016. He is also a former President of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, holding the role from 2017 to 2019.

Mark is the Plastic Surgery Specialty Elected Councillor to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and currently sits on the Board of Training and Council for the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the New Zealand Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. In addition, he is a member of the Perioperative Expert Advisory Board for Safer Care Victoria within the Department of Health and Human Services, where he advises the Victorian Government on health policy matters.

He is the Co-Editor in Chief of the Australasian Journal of Plastic Surgery and an Invited Editor for the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal in the United States. Mark is also an invited Faculty Member of the International Perforator Flap Course in Belgium, Chairman of the Melbourne Advanced Facial Anatomy Course, and a regular participant in both the London Breast Meeting and Stockholm Breast Meetings.

Mark is the Director of the Taylor Research Laboratory in the Anatomy Department at the University of Melbourne. He has previously served as a Board Member and Chair of the Surgical Committee for Interplast, a not-for-profit organisation delivering plastic surgery services across the Asia Pacific region.

Across his academic career, Mark has authored eleven book chapters and published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles in leading national and international journals focused on plastic and reconstructive surgery.
